As we begin our journey are you in the moment? Are you aware of the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of things? Are you aware of what it is you are feeling and thinking? Are you in touch with yourself? As a writer these are questions I have been asking myself as I work at perfecting the craft of playing with words. I have come to the realization that either I have not been living in the moment or I lack the vocabulary to explain what something tastes like, smells like, sounds likes, feels like. And then I have a dream and I taste the baked potato in the dream with the sharp bite of the green onions and the creamy feel of the sour cream in my mouth. This dream is so real to me that I am surprised to wake finding myself in bed. And I wonder if I have ever really lived in the moment to taste a baked potato instead of gulping it down. I wonder how many people (myself included) go through the day missing the moments. Too busy thinking about what happened at work, troubles they may have, and other things to really taste their food. Too busy to really smell the flowers. (I never realized until this Spring that daffodils have a honey smell to them.)Too busy to really know the touch of someone's hand. I think it is time for a rest break so find a park bench or a patch of grass and make yourself comfortable. Look around you and be in the moment.
