Recently hubby and I were visiting a friend in a university town. We had not seen our friend for a year and it was good to see him again. I hope he feels the same way. While in the town we had gone to a thrift store and had lots of fun laughing and giggling. (I am sure some of the patrons thought we were crazy) Because Halloween is this month the store had things for costumes. We purchased a "graduation" cap for one of our stuffed bunnies along with other things. On the way back to the car I started skipping across the crosswalk. Hubby started skipping too as he reached for my hand. (I had not planned to skip across the crosswalk...I just found myself doing so without really thinking about what people may think) Once in the car hubby put on the graduation cap and I told him he looked as smart as he is. He wore the cap all the way back home and I could not help but wonder if a little bit of my "just do it" attitude has worn off on him :-). I also wondered how I could help him feel smart all the time instead of "stupid" but that is another story about how knowing you have Alzheimer can make you feel stupid. (Especially if some people treat you like you are because you are slow in formulating your thoughts) Everytime I think about us skipping across the crosswalk I smile. I hope we will have more moments when we can let go of our inhibitions and "Just Do It!". In addition I also hope that we have more moments when we can forget that he has this dreadful disease and can live in the moment enjoying life to the fullest. "Just Do It!" Dare to do something different like skipping down the street. Walking backwards or wearing some kind of disguise like a clown nose or costume. "Just Do It!" and live life to the fullest enjoying the moment. Spring...The Renewal Of Life - Monday, Mar. 21, 2005
